CBD for Anxiety & Stress

Use of CBD as an effective monotherapy or complementary therapy for treating generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. CBD interacts with the cannabinoid type 1 receptor (CB1R), the serotonin 5-HT1A receptor, and other receptors in the brain that regulate fear and anxiety-induced behaviors, including: generalized anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder (SAD)

Key Fact #1

CBD works with the endocannabinoid system to produce some beneficial effects across your body.

Key Fact #2

Serotonin deficiency is associated with depression and other psychiatric disorders and it is likely that the effects CBD has on mood and anxiety are related to this interaction.

Can CBD help Anxiety & Stress?

CBD may also benefit people with other forms of anxiety, such as social anxiety disorder (SAD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It may help treat anxiety-induced insomnia as well. In 2011, a study researched CBD’s effects on people with SAD. Participants were given an oral dose of 400 milligrams (mg) of CBD or a placebo. Those who received CBD experienced overall reduced anxiety levels.

Benefits of CBD for Stress

Multiple recent studies have shown that CBD can help with PTSD symptoms, such as having nightmares and replaying negative memories. These studies have looked at CBD as both a standalone PTSD treatment as well as a supplement to traditional treatments like medication and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
